First Day Introduction
A PowerPoint presentation detailing classroom rules, expectations, and procedures. This presentation would be used on the first day of school to establish a routine for the students and lay down specific boundaries.
Classroom Rules
An example of the rules I plan to use in my classroom. The goal is to create an environment where all students feel comfortable and safe so that they can be as creative as possible. Many of my lessons have students coming out of their shells, and I want to provide the atmosphere where they can do that.
Pride Project
Designed to be completed during the first week of school and as an introduction to a coming novel - Pride Posters are a way to get to know my students on a personal level. In order to understand each of my students and try to work with his/her learning style and personality, I believe this is an important task. I also wish to celebrate the differences within a class and attempt to find similarities.
Student Information Sheet
Along with the Pride Poster, here is an example of a student information sheet I would ask each student to fill out on the first day of classes. While this sheet will also allow me to learn about my students on a personal level, it will also help me learn about them as students. This information will later be used to determine seating arrangements, groups, novels, and types of assessments.
Miss Diem's Reading List
A collection of 20 books that I believe all students should read before they finish their high school careers. The list includes popular literature, canonical literature, and some books that may have been overlooked. The list contains books for middle school students and high school students. I have copies of all of these books available for borrowing.
